St. Ignatius Hall
About
THIS PROJECT
Loyola Blakefield’s St. Ignatius Hall is a 46,000 SF, innovative learning center for students in grades 6-8. The two-story middle school, adjacent to Wheeler Hall, includes:
- 10 classrooms
- Two science labs
- Cyber lab
- Art studio
- Sectional room
- Band room
- Maker space
- Collaborative learning commons
The learning commons is a collaborative space for all grade levels at Loyola Blakefield. The lower level includes a maker space for students and an acoustically-tuned space for the school’s band and instrument practice area.
The building’s exterior was designed to match the character of the other prominent buildings on the school’s campus, with a façade that includes butler stone and cast stone details and slate roofing. Also included was the campus’ first vegetated roof, located overtop of the Connaughton Family Learning Commons.
This project was awarded the ACI Excellence in Concrete Award 2021 by the American Concrete Institute (Maryland Chapter).
