University of Colorado Boulder Williams Village East Residence Hall
About
THIS PROJECT
This new seven-story, 178,000 SF residence hall on the University of Colorado Boulder’s campus houses 700 students in 20 communities consisting of 35 beds each. The reception desk is centered on the first floor, with a clear view of the two main entrances to the building. The projects’ site improvements included enhancements to an existing pond to the east, adding a large terrace to the south, and integration with the nearby existing soccer fields through installation of fence screening, hammock posts, and slack line posts. Interior features consist of:
- Community great room
- Student kitchen
- Two-story student lounges
- Multipurpose rooms
- Study rooms
- Hall director apartments
Sustainability features include ample windows to let in natural light, as well as windows with electrochromic glass that adjusts the shading based on the time of day and year. Student rooms have sensors that turn off heating or cooling when a window is opened. The entire building has LED lights and low-flow water fixtures, in addition to an infrastructure installation for a future 150-kW rooftop solar energy system. This project is LEED® Gold certification.
