BWMC Cogeneration Heat and Power System Plant
About
THIS PROJECT
This energy project involved a 2,500 SF, two-story addition to an existing boiler room, which provided a nominal two-megawatt combined heat and power system to be integrated with the current facility. The plant produces electricity, hot water and steam, all of which are integrated into the existing systems used by the Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
Heat recovery includes cycling the engine jacket water through a plate/frame heat exchanger to raise the existing hospital heating hot water temperature. The engine exhaust is routed through a heat recovery steam generator that supplements the existing plant steam supply. The unit is also capable of being used as part of the hospital’s emergency power system.
