Ohio State Medical Center Chiller Plant

About

THIS PROJECT

This project consists of two separate buildings for the The Ohio State University Medical Center. The first is an iconic, five-story, 96,000 SF chiller plant that has become a signature building on the campus. The plant has eight 2,500-ton chillers, eight field-erected 2,500-ton cooling towers, as well as the associated piping, valves, pumps, filters, etc. This building provides chilled water to the main chilled water loop on the medical center campus and serves several new and future buildings.

This is an unmanned building, and there is minimal HVAC work within the building. Similarly, the building has very limited interior finish work, mainly isolated to the 800 SF control room. The building was fully coordinated using BIM/VDC. The facility includes 4.5 miles of chilled water and steam piping and all pipes are insulated and located in a utility tunnel with lighting, fiber, data and electrical components.

The second building is a 4,200 SF, stand-alone generator building that houses two 2.75-megawatt, 13.2-kilovolt diesel generators. This project achieved LEED® Silver certification.
