SUNY Upstate Medical University Academic Building
About
THIS PROJECT
The 75,000 SF new academic building for SUNY Upstate Medical University provides a direct connection to the Syracuse downtown campus main hospital that consists of a cancer center, children’s hospital and trauma center. The academic building is centrally located within the academic region of campus, and it serves the Schools of Nursing and Health Professions, which includes physical therapy, physician assistant and radiation therapy technology programs. The facility includes:
- Teaching laboratories
- Simulation laboratories
- Offices and general classrooms
- 349-person multifunction/lecture space
- Central boiler/chiller plant
The building is a steel frame on deep foundations with a curtainwall and metal panel exterior skin. Construction of the facility took place on a very challenging site with connections to Weiskotten Hall, Silverman Hall and Upstate University Hospital, as well as utility connections at two separate points.
This project won the 2015 NYS Association of General Contractors Excellence in Partnering.
