The Ruby City art museum is new two-story, 10,000 SF facility inspired from a sketch by the late founder Linda Pace. The museum provides contemporary art exhibition spaces to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). It is made up of a series of independent gallery rooms that house 800 works of art. The facility also includes a lobby, offices and a conference room and features an entry court and outdoor sculpture garden. There is also an elevator specifically designed and dimensioned to carry one piece of artwork, a 60’s model Volkswagen Bug, which was turned into an art piece by Linda Pace.

The building’s exterior is clad in precast concrete fabricated in Mexico City. The concrete is ruby red with three different textures and finishes, and has polished, exposed aggregate with glass fragment. Over 775 tons of precast concrete made the 850-mile trip from Mexico City to San Antonio, requiring 60 deliveries. This equates to about 51,000 miles one way, which is equivalent of two trips around the earth.
