THIS PROJECT
The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine is a highly complex research laboratory situated on 16 acres adjacent to the University of Connecticut Health Center’s Farmington campus. The four-story, 189,000 SF facility includes:
- 17 wet biology laboratories
- 17 dry computational science laboratories
- Data center
- Vivarium
- 200-seat auditorium
- Video conferencing center
- Kitchen and dining room
- Fitness center
- Boardwalk path connecting to the upper campus walkways
This project achieved LEED® Gold certification and was awarded the Go Beyond Award for Sustainability by the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories.

The building has stunning architectural features including limestone, zinc panels, custom curtainwall, curved cherry wood wall panels, terrazzo flooring, curved granite pavers, wood ceilings, curved steel and glass stairs, and custom interior glass walls. Nearly a third of the building is a three-dimensional circular cone that has walls curving in both plan and elevation.
