Houston Field House Renovation
About
THIS PROJECT
This multi-phased project renovated the hockey field house at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The first phase upgraded 20,000 SF of locker rooms, coaches’ offices and bathrooms. The second phase renovated the ceiling system with new paint, lighting and a game scoreboard over the active ice system. Exterior upgrades consisted of replacing the metal panel façade with a curtainwall system. An interior addition provided a mezzanine level, offices, a conference room, and support staff and admin areas.
Originally opening on campus in 1949, the building’s previous purpose was a Navy warehouse in Rhode Island. Following World War II, the school requested permission to acquire the space from the Veterans Education Facilities Program. To this day, Houston Field House is noted as the nation’s third-oldest college hockey rink.
