About

THIS PROJECT

This three-story aquatic center was the final phase of the Virginia Military Institute Corps Physical Training Facility program. The 58,000 SF facility features a 50-meter, Olympic-sized indoor swimming pool. It is divided into three sections to be used concurrently for competitive swimming, diving and water polo. Additionally, the pool is equipped with an automated system that monitors the chemical balance and temperature and regulates the levels automatically. The pool features two one-meter springboards, two three-meter springboards, a five-meter dive platform and a wall-mounted scoreboard. The facility includes:

  • Endless pool
  • Warming pool
  • Wet classroom
  • Training and rehabilitation room
  • Locker room
  • Pool support spaces and offices

Whiting-Turner utilized VDC for MEP coordination and logistics planning on the project. The roof was constructed of 21 glue laminated wood beams, with each being 90-inches deep and 18-inches wide. This project achieved LEED®.
