Austin-Bergstrom International Airport: Centralized Baggage Handling System Upgrades

About

THIS PROJECT

This design-build project increased capacity, upgraded aging equipment and modernized technology and security requirements necessary for the baggage handling system to meet high demand at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. These improvements will allow the airport to simplify bag processing and function more efficiently. The outbound baggage handling system includes a network of new equipment where checked luggage travels to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and boards the aircraft. Additional conveyor belts increased the square footage and reconfiguration of new and existing belts, allowing up to 4,000 bags to be processed per hour. New terminal space was also constructed to give the airport an opportunity to expand in the future.
