BWI Concourse E Extension
About
THIS PROJECT
This expansion at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport was 70,000 SFaddition to Concourse E and a 20,000 SF renovation to support six additional international gates. The lower level accommodates future baggage make-up operations, a new electrical substation, mechanical and electrical support spaces, two restrooms and leasable space. There was also an extension to the previous sterile corridor, support space for Automated Passport Control and two mobile lounge docking locations.
Of the six gates, four are arrivals only and the remaining two gates accommodate arrival and departure flights. The upper level includes two passenger waiting areas that hold 175 people each, as well as public restrooms, shell space for a future concession and a unique polycarbonate skylight. The project also included an expansion of the mechanical room to house additional mechanical equipment required to support the addition. The concourse remained operational while five passenger waiting areas were renovated to include new carpet, ceiling, millwork, infrastructure, HVAC controls and lighting. This project also included a reconfiguration of the concourse exit to accommodate the increased egress of passengers.
